Maples

geometry in winter

This series reflects the artist’s intrigue with geometric shapes that appear between the bare branches of maple trees in winter

“Trees, lovely trees. I have an affinity for many species – Pacific Madrone, Douglas Fir, Western Redcedar, -but I am definitely partial to Acer Macrophyllum, Big Leaf Maple.  Images of maples trees from childhood still delight me – looking up at sunlight through emerald green summer leaves, playing outside in a fall windstorm – leaves and whirlybirds dancing in the sky, peeling back the bark on broken off twigs trying to make a flute like my dad did.”
